Project

Norwest Private Hospital

This $50 million new build hospital project was designed to enhance existing services and meet the future needs of the community.

It involved the design and construction of a new 4-storey hospital building over an existing ground floor podium and basement parking slabs. Works were carefully staged to allow the existing hospital to remain fully functional during the construction process, so the existing post-tensioned ground floor slab was propped and local zones demolished to provide access for a piling rig from the ground slab. The existing column and pile cap were demolished and new piles, pile caps, and columns were installed. New lift and shear walls were also installed using a similar process. A detailed design analysis was required to ensure new column loads and footing settlement did not impact the existing structure. After the early works package, the construction of levels 1-4 of the hospital used conventional banded slab design and a lightweight steel frame roof structure. This project was complex and demanding, but it was successfully completed in mid 2009.
